The mission of the Sun and Sea Team is to provide exceptional, knowledgeable service to our clients in accordance with the highest ethical standards of the REALTOR organization, and to have as much fun as we can doing it. We take you and your needs very seriously, but we try not to take ourselves too seriously. Living at the beach means we live a relaxed life style, and youll find us in the surf or on the sand (with fishing rod, book or pets, depending on who youre looking for) when were not serving our clients.

Our business philosophy is based on service to our clients before, during and after the sale. Our success comes with the success of our clients, and their willingness to refer their friends and family members to us. Unlike most real estate agents, we do not spend our time beating the bushes for the next client. Rather, we spend all our time serving our clients. We treat you the way we want to be treated, with honesty, courtesy, respect and expertise. Barb fulfilled a life-long dream when she and her husband John moved to the Outer Banks in 1990. "Having vacationed here every summer while I was growing up," she says,"I have loved this area for as long as I can remember."

"Selling Outer Banks real estate seemed a natural thing to do. I always remember that I was a long-distance buyer and seller and an absentee rental-home owner before I moved here, and I remember the concerns that I had with long-distance transactions. My job now is to find my clients the properties that best fit their needs, anticipate and answer their concerns and questions, and guide them through the numerous steps to a successful closing. The Outer Banks is a wonderful place, but it presents a different set of challenges for homeowners, whether they live here full-time or own vacation property and live elsewhere."  

Barb is an Associate Broker and leader of the Sun and Sea Team at RE/MAX Ocean Realty in Kill Devil Hills, and is a graduate of the North Carolina REALTORS  Institute (GRI). She also holds the Certified Residential Specialist (CRS), Resort and Second Home Property Specialist (RSPS), Accredited Buyer Agent (ABR), Seniors Real Esate Specialist (SRES) and e-PRO professional designations. The CRS designation is the highest nationally accredited designation available to residential specialists and is held by only 2% of all REALTORS nationwide. She is also a member of the RE/MAX Platinum Club, Director's Club, and RE/MAX International Hall of Fame.

Barb has been a consistently active member of the Outer Banks Association of REALTORS, serving as an OBAR Director from 1994-2000 and 2004-2007, and as the Association's President in 1999. In addition to other elected and appointed positions in the organization, Barb has chaired the education, strategic planning, MLS, public relations, program and legislative/political affairs committees, and in 2000 was named Outer Banks REALTOR of the Year. She is also an instructor for the OBAR Agent Training program and the New Member Orientation program, for which she also serves as Facilitator.

A past Director of the North Carolina Association of REALTORS, Barb has served on the NCAR Professional Standards. Strategic Planning, and Forms Committees. In 1999 she chaired the NCAR Printed Media/Communications Advisory Group, and the NCAR Information Management Advisory Group in 2003.

Barb had the honor of representing the National Association of REALTORS before the U.S. House of Representatives Banking and Financial Services Committee in 1999, where she spoke in favor of H.R. 21, the Homeowners Insurance Availability Act. H.R. 21 attempted to help solve the problems of insurance availability and affordability in coastal areas, issues that are still before us today.

Barb served for four years as the REALTOR representative on the Dare County Tourism Board of Directors, from 2440-2007. She served as the Board's Secretary in 2005, Vice Chair in 2006 and as the Chair of the Board in 2007. She also serves on the Dare County Land Transfer Tax Appeals Board and the Kitty Hawk Board of Adjustment. In 2004, she served on the Town of Kitty Hawk's Hazard Mitigation Plan Task Force, and on Dare County's Shoreline Preservation Committee from 2002-2004.

Barb is a native of Washington, D.C., a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Maryland and was the assistant to the president of a regional fine arts auction house in D.C. prior to her move to the Outer Banks. Barb and her husband John live in Kitty Hawk. They have three sons and five grandchildren.
